AZETS OFFICE CLEARANCE

Recycling Furniture Project

A joint partnership to sustainably dispose of, and refurbish unwanted office furniture items

About The Azets Clearance Project

The Audit and Assurance partner from Azets, reached out to the Plann:d team to support clearing their old offices. This involved 70 workstations in different rooms that were no longer needed, due to a completely new fit-out agreed upon in their new offices. Azets had the unique problem of needing to dispose of all their old furniture and needed to do it as sustainably as possible.

Azets approached the Plann:d team under the impression all their old furniture would be scrapped, but were pleasantly surprised to learn about working with Sustain as well as the recycling LOF Office Furniture does. Depending on the condition of the used office furniture at Azets, LOF were able to recycle the furniture by taking it through a refurbishment process and being able to sell it on, creating a circular economy in office furniture.

The pieces of furniture that could not be refurbished were collected by the Plann:d team and, in the end, able to clear 70 workstations ready to be recycled by Sustain. Plann:d would also provide Azets with a recycling certificate which breaks down the amount of furniture saved from landfill and the kg/CO2e savings from the project.

We found Plann:d through Google, and were not sure if they could help with our current project. But after a friendly chat with Darren, he was able to advise the best way forward and showed me how we can achieve our goal sustainably.

Our very purpose at Azets is ‘to improve the lives of our colleagues, our clients and our communities in a sustainable way’, which Darren took on board when exploring options for us. The Plann:d team were absolutely brilliant from start to finish, what I thought would just be thrown into skips, turned out to be saved from landfill. Darren and the team were very good in communicating timelines, when they were arriving on site and when they were finishing, so I was always in the loop at what stage the project was at.

About Sustain

In 2009 the Senator Group invested in a £1.5 million facility called Sustain to support their commitment and efforts to be more sustainable. Plann:d worked with Sustain to help deliver the Azets clearance project. In total, the Azets diverted 6,768kg of furniture from going to landfill that has resulted in a saving of 8,693 kg/CO2e. This included 127 chairs, 33 desks, 32 pedestals, 33 storage units, 2 screens.
